A little background about Ol Gray

Ol Gray is my 1987 Buick Regal Turbo T. Car was originally purchased in Augusta, GA on April 16th, 1987 at Duke Buick, Inc. for a grand total of $17,823. Car spent most of it’s life with the original owners, until being purchased from them in 2003. I bought the car in late 2004 and am only the 3rd registered owner. Ol Gray is still the original gray color, with options LC2 (turbocharged/intercooled 3.8 liter V6) WO2 (blackout/sport trim) U52 (digital dash) Y56 (“T” package) to name a few. As luck would have it, I have almost all of the original paperwork for the car, including the window sticker, vehicle invoice, owners manuals, maintenance records….pretty cool considering the car is approaching 19 years of age.

Some people have asked “what’s the difference between a T and the Grand National?” The Grand National was produced in much greater numbers than the T package cars….Click here to see the build numbers. It’s actually just cosmetic differences, as the cars share the same turbo 3.8 V6, 200R4 trans, and 8.5” 3.42 geared rear. The biggest difference is that you could order a T-type (1986) or Turbo T (1987) in any color/trim that was offered in the Regal body. Bench seat, column shift, leather, cornering lamps, chrome trim…anything that you wanted. All you had to do was check the LC2 engine option and G80 rear option to have one bad to the bone sleeper that looked like your grandmother’s Regal. That’s what I like about Ol Gray…..chrome bumpers, gray paint, and no badges other  than the little “T” emblems on the fenders. The only giveaway is the Buick power bulge hood…..an item only found on turbo V6 cars. Otherwise, it looks just like any other Buick Regal…..gotta love a sleeper.

Right now, Ol Gray is in the process of getting the mechanicals upgraded. New turbo, intercooler, injectors, cam, etc.. New combo should be good for low 11’s-high 10’s at the dragstrip if the high mile bottom end is up to the task. If it runs high 11’s on 93 octane, I will be thrilled, especially with 173K miles on the clock. I’ll keep updating the page as the mods progress. After the mechanicals are addressed, will be time for an interior freshening up. After that……paint and body work in the spring if all goes well. Eventually, the car will be back to her former glory….and then some. Who knows, she may even become a show car…..nahhhh, like going to the track and driving her too much for that.
